Mental health center assisted troubled son

I am probably about 30 years late with this recognition of the most valuable mental health program here in Salina, Central Kansas Mental Health Center. I brought my son to Kansas in 1986 and moved him to Salina in 1987. He was admitted to their community then and became one of the first Crossroads members to take part in their Temporary Employment Program. He then went to work for Sears in Salina. I knew at that time they had performed a miracle and saved his life.

After Sears closed their store recently, my son had completed 29 years of service with them. He had a most difficult time in coping with the drastic change in his lifestyle. He became very anxious and depressed and nonsocial, much like he was when I brought him to Kansas more than 30 years ago.

I made inquiry at the mental health center to see if he could receive more of their services currently. I was impressed, just like 30 years ago, at how accommodating and cooperative they were as they invited me to bring my son out for an interview, which I did on July 20. He had a nice, one-hour visit with a therapist and came away much relieved that he had been able to express his concerns and get meaningful feedback from the therapist. As he concluded he was able to sort out some of the priorities that had been bothering him and he is much improved via that visit.

Central Kansas Mental Health Center is a most valuable asset to Salina, and I have advertised it many times to parents or other members of families with children having mental health problems. I have seen numerous of them helped by CKMHC like I was.

God bless the facility and all of their staff members!
