Veteran receives motorcycle makeover

Claremore Daily Progress - 2/20/2018

Feb. 20--It was a star spangled surprise for veteran Michael "Sparky" Foster.

On Saturday a customized motorcycle was unveiled to Foster as part of a Misfits for Hero Project.

Fosters friends, family and fellow riders gathered at the shop for the unveiling of the custom work.

MizFit Cuztomz Motorcycle and Weld Shop owner Stevo Murray said the shop randomly selected a veteran to make over and fully customize their motorcycle.

He said the work represents a long hard month of design, man hours and multiple processes with help from M&M Industries and Fresh Powder 918.

Murray added, "As a team we picked the bike we wanted to makeover...This one is for an Air Force veteran. He came in and told us his story and we made over his bike."

Murray said he did roughly 15 hours of air brushing on the bike, not to mention the powder coating and other details.

"We turned basically a $9,000 bike into a $20,000 bike," Murray said, of the 2015 Harley Sportster.

He said everyone who worked on the project donated their time and resources.

"This is just our way of giving back," he said. "I called it Mizfit for Heros, I've been a misfit all my life."

He said this is the first project they've done, but they're hoping to do two per year moving forward and welcome veterans and first responders.

Those who attended the unveiling said they were happy to support the veteran, and proud of what the shop was doing.

Foster, an Iraqi Freedom veteran, was clearly touched by the generosity of the crew who did the makeover--and by the American pride displayed on his new ride.
