Fayetteville Technical Community College has stepped up to help battle the coronavirus pandemic, providing thousands of items of personal protective equipment to Cape Fear Valley Health on Friday, according to a school news release.

The PPE donation is in addition to FTCC's previous contribution of four medical ventilators to the healthcare system.

"It's our pleasure and our honor to provide this personal protective equipment to support our healthcare providers as they combat the COVID-19 virus," FTCC President J. Larry Keen said in the release.

"These are the heroes on the front lines, and we support them. FTCC is continuing to educate and train people in these vital healthcare fields."

The release stated that FTCC also donated 150 masks and hundreds of gloves to the N.C. State Veterans Home.

FTCC uses PPE for students in many of its healthcare and funeral services programs, the release said. Some PPE was kept for students, but the rest was donated because this equipment is in short supply nationally, and it is essential for the safety of healthcare personnel, the release said.

Supplies provided to Cape Fear Valley on Friday included face shields, N-95 masks, regular medical face masks, gloves, isolation gowns, aprons, lab jackets, head covers, as well as disinfectant and hand sanitizer, according to the release.
