Feeling alone and isolated? Attend a free online mental health workshop series

South Florida Sun Sentinel - 4/9/2020

People dealing with the impact of self-isolation during the novel coronavirus crisis can reach out in a virtual workshop series starting Saturday, April 11, to listen to tips and participate in a question-and-answer session.

Recognizing that many in the community are dealing with first-time experiences such as overseeing their child’s online educational instruction, job loss, social distancing and more, psychology experts from Nova Southeastern University’s College of Psychology have designed an online series of discussions.

The “Shark Chats,” named after the university’s shark mascot, will tackle various mental health issues with a focus on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The group sessions are each themed to help guide the conversations.

Mental Health Check with Tara Jungersen, PhD: April 11, 10 a.m.

Coping with COVID-19: Mental Health Tips for Families, with Scott Poland, Ed.D.: April 14, Noon

Developing an Effective Coping Kit During the Anxiety-Provoking Time of COVID-19, with Kayla K. Thayer, Ph.D.: April 17, 10:30 a.m.

Yappy Hour!’ BYOP (Bring Your Own Pet): Benefits of the Human-Animal Bond During COVID-19, with Ariann Robino, Ph.D., LPC, NCC.: April 27, 5:30 p.m.

The online Shark Chats are free, but space is limited. Virtual attendees can register at nova.edu/sharkchats
